Meta Layoffs News: In a bold and controversial move, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, has informed his employees about his plans to cut approximately 5% of Meta’s workforce this year through an internal memo. The tech giant also warned that 2025 will be an intense year.
The decision aims to make several major operational changes planned within Meta. It will also build closer ties with the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, who will take office on January 20th.
Why will the Meta layoffs its employees in 2025?
According to the reports, Zuckerberg’s Meta team is working on developing advance technologies such as artificial intelligence, glasses as the next computing platform and the future of social media.
To streamline the development process and improve performance, management has decided to layoff underperforming employees in 2025. The goal is to retain the best team.
“Normally, we lay off people who don’t meet expectations over the course of a year, but now we will make broader cuts based on performance during this cycle, with the intention of filling those positions in 2025,” he said in the memo.
He also ensured that not all employees who did not performed well during the last year will be fired as long as the company believes that they can perform better in future.

How many workers will Meta layoffs in 2025?
Meta is planning to reduce the workforce by 5%. According to Meta’s latest quarterly report, the company founded by Mark Zuckerberg currently has more than 72,000 employees worldwide. So the Meta layoffs will affect more than 3,600 employees this year.
What will happen to the employees who are laid off?
All employees affected by Meta layoffs will be informed before February 10 (or later if they are outside the United States). They will receive a substantial severance, following the terms the company has previously set.
