- Salary: Starts at $49,144.26 annually. It increases to $52,278.46 after achieving Paramedic solo status.
- Shift schedule: 24 hours on, 48 hours off
- Bonus: A $7,000 signing bonus is included in the first paycheck after completing the hiring process.
Key Requirements
1. Certifications (must have at testing date):
- Valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Florida Paramedic certification.
- Florida Fire Fighter Certificate of Compliance or a Letter of Completion from the Florida Bureau of Fire Standards and Training.
2. Driver’s License:
- A valid Florida Driver’s License must be maintained throughout employment.
3. Background Checks:
- Pass criminal, driver’s license, and personal background checks.
- Complete a Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) check through the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.
4. Physical Tests:
- Pass a written fire and medical exam.
- Successfully complete either:
- A valid Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) (completed within one year of the written exam), or
- The Brevard Physical Abilities Test (BPAT) (offered for free).
5. Medical Fitness:
- Pass a physical exam based on NFPA 1582 guidelines.

- Non-Tobacco Policy: Applicants must not have used tobacco for at least one year before applying and must refrain from tobacco use (including cessation products) at all times during employment.
- Veteran’s Preference: Veterans with an honorable discharge are eligible for preference points on the written exam. Submit necessary documents (e.g., DD-214) before the test date.
