A Jeju Air flight 2216 crashed today in South Korea. According to officials, there were 181 people on board the plane. The accident occurred while landing at an airport in the southwestern region of South Korea on Sunday, killing at least 94 people.

Local officials said that the passenger plane operated by Jeju Air was landing at Muan International Airport when it slipped off the runway and crashed. Muan Fire Department official Lee Seong-sil says that they found 94 bodies and are taking them to the hospital.

Passengers Are Being Evacuated
Acting President Choi Sang-mok arrived at the Central Disaster Management Headquarters in Seoul. He has ordered to ‘mobilize all available resources’ for rescue operations at Muan International Airport. According to a report by South Korean news agency Yonhap, the landing gear of the Jeju Air flight 2216 must have been affected due to the bird hit. The video online shows that the plane is trying to land without lowering its landing gear. However, the footage could not be confirmed. According to the fire department, rescue officials are evacuating passengers from the rear part of the jet.
Accident Happened During Landing
According to Yonhap’s report, after the landing gear of Jeju Air flight 2216 failed, the pilot decided to land it straight. During the emergency landing, the speed of the plane could not be reduced, due to which it reached the end of the runway. According to officials, it collided with the fence at the end of the airport and the plane caught fire. According to officials, out of 175 passengers, 173 are Korean citizens. At the same time, 2 are Thai citizens.
