A woman, who says she was raped by rappers Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs when she was just 13 years old, has admitted that parts of her story don’t add up. The alleged incident happened after the MTV Video Music Awards in 2000.
The woman, only known as “Jane Doe” to protect her identity and make her anonymous, spoke to NBC News and said, “I’ve made some mistakes,” but stands by her overall allegations.
Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, and Combs both have denied the allegations.
There are some issues with her story. For example, she said her father picked her up after the alleged assault. However, her father has said he doesn’t remember making the trip, which would have taken over five hours. She also claimed to have talked to a celebrity at the party, but that celebrity said they weren’t there and were on tour at the time.
Jay-Z and Combs At Different Location
Photos reviewed by NBC News show Jay-Z and Combs at a different location than what Jane Doe described. It’s unclear when those pictures were taken or if the two attended other parties that night.
Even though her story has inconsistencies, that doesn’t necessarily mean it isn’t true. The events allegedly happened 24 years ago, which can make details harder to confirm.
Jane Doe said a friend drove her from her home in Rochester, New York, to the event in New York City, but that friend has since passed away.
The lawsuit was filed by Mr. Tony Buzbee, a lawyer from Texas, says he represents 120 people in cases against Combs.
Jay-Z and his lawyer, Alex Spiro, have called the lawsuit baseless. In a statement posted online, Jay-Z said, “This is a false complaint filed by a lawyer chasing money and fame. The incident never happened.” He added, “True justice is coming. This was over before it began.”
Jay-Z has also asked for the woman’s identity to be made public or for the case to be thrown out. His lawyer said, “It’s shocking that a lawyer would file such a serious claim without properly investigating it first. We’re asking the court to dismiss this case immediately.”
Jay-Z, one of the world’s most successful rappers, has won 24 Grammy Awards and rose to fame in the late 1990s. Just last week, he appeared on the red carpet with his wife, Beyoncé, and their 12-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy, a day after these accusations became public.
Mr. Tony Buzbee, who is representing the woman, said her accusations are still being investigated, and he is working to find supporting evidence. He added that Jane Doe has agreed to take a lie detector test. She has been deeply stressed by the current situation, even experiencing seizures and needing medical care.
Mr. Buzbee denied claims that he’s trying to blackmail anyone, saying he will reply everything in court.
